Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (Master of Science)

Combine technical, managerial and business contents in a unique international master course for your future career in systems engineering or engineering management. Grow into a leadership role and master all challenges at the interface between technology and business. Specialize in your preferred pathway according to your background and/or future career options: Mechanical Systems, Electronic Systems and Mechatronic Systems and broaden your research potential.
Who is the study course aimed at and what career prospects does it offer?

    Objectives of the Course

The programme will deepen and broaden the research potential and the knowledge base of graduate engineers. Engineering Bachelor courses especially in electronic, mechanical and manufacturing engineering are the required entry qualification. The M.Sc. will provide advanced specialist training beyond the bachelor studies.
The course will provide research training in systems engineering and engineering management. It will equip graduates with the skills to integrate advanced technology into a wide variety of industrial applications and research topics, e.g. control systems design, digital signal processing, machine learning, advanced production engineering, embedded systems.
The course will incorporate modern engineering technologies and major non-technical (e.g. management studies) elements, as both these areas are important aspects of modern industrial and engineering practice and research.

    Target Group
The program is designed for engineering graduates from courses such as electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, systems engineering, etc. who are seeking for an international learning environment where they can broaden their technical skills in actual research relevant fields, such as machine learning, embedded system design, control system technology, additive manufacturing, advanced production engineering, etc. At the same time, half of the taught contents will focus on management and business topics, such that future graduates will be prepared for leadership roles in technology-focused companies. Please check the entry requirements for the course.

    Career Prospects
Graduates of this course are well qualified for a great variety of potential roles in tech-based companies. From pure engineering roles in the fields of electrical, mechanical or mechatronic engineering, over leadership roles in systems engineering and engineering management, e.g. as section heads or department heads, to research oriented scientists and potential doctoral students. The international nature of course enables all graduates to work in intercultural environments.

How is the study course structured? / Overview of the study course
The Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (SEEM) course offers a two-fold qualification where current research related engineering subjects are coupled with key business and management competencies. Therefore, the curriculum consists of technical modules, which are chosen according to the chosen pathway (electronic, mechatronic of mechanical systems) and business and management modules which are common for all pathways. The first two semesters consists of four modules each, while the third semester is reserved for the master thesis and the viva (colloquium). The actual order to the modules is defined, whether the course was started in winter or in the summer semester. The following table shows the curriculum of the course for all three pathways.
